Streamlining Success: Crafting Software with Accessibility and Efficiency in Mind

In recent years, the dynamics of airport staffing have undergone significant shifts, marked notably by a reduction in workforce numbers and experience levels. This transition has resulted in a host of challenges, ranging from the complexities of recruitment to the necessity of streamlining traditional operational processes to bolster workforce efficiency. This prompts a critical question: Are we fostering environments conducive to equity and digital inclusivity while simultaneously eliminating technological barriers to efficiency?

To address these challenges head-on, Veovo has developed a suite of new-generation operations software geared towards full accessibility and optimised workflows.

Accessibility for all

We are committed to ensuring our platform is accessible to all users, aligning closely with international standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Working closely with usability experts from Purple Shirt, recipients of awards for airline in-flight entertainment system UI, we’ve embraced WCAG principles to ensure our platform is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users.

We’ve implemented keyboard shortcuts and screen reader-friendly content, introduced colour-coded flight status icons for enhanced visibility, and accommodated font size adjustments for visually impaired users. Additionally, our investments in Generative AI and language-to-text technology aim to enhance accessibility further.

Efficient workflows

Efficiency is at the core of our design philosophy. We’ve expertly crafted interfaces that guide users through workflows seamlessly, allowing them to focus on critical tasks while minimising clutter. Adopting a “manage by exception” approach, we present users with only the most relevant information at any given time, thereby reducing cognitive overload.

Configurable workspaces and role-based access ensure consistent information filtering and heightened security. Moreover, each application features a notification tray providing personalised priority-based alerts, to-do lists, and notifications, further enhancing efficiency.

Our platform is accessible on mobile devices, enabling users to access information and perform tasks remotely, enhancing flexibility and productivity.

Data-driven improvements

Our commitment to user-centric design commences early in the development process, with active user involvement to gather feedback and insights for new products and iterative improvements to current solutions.  By engaging users collaboratively, we gain valuable first-hand knowledge of their preferences, pain points, and workflow challenges, allowing us to tailor our solutions accordingly.

One of the key strategies employed by Veovo is the observation of user interactions with prototype systems. Observing user interactions with prototype systems grants us invaluable insights into behaviour and usage patterns, enabling us to identify areas for improvement and fine-tune usability and efficiency. We also actively solicit user feedback at various stages of the design process, incorporating it into our iterative approach to validate decisions and prioritise enhancements.

Data analytics play a pivotal role in our design process, allowing us to gain insights into system usage and performance. By analysing user interactions and system metrics, we can identify opportunities for optimization and refinement, ultimately enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness. For example, the new generation Resource Management System can monitor the frequency, time of day and outcomes of flight linking, flight time updates, towing, stand and gate allocation changes. This data-driven approach enables us to pinpoint opportunities for optimisation and refinement by the airport and by the user – do we prioritise the placement of features and data that we serve up at particular times?

Continuous improvement is ingrained in our design philosophy, acknowledging that user needs and preferences evolve. We remain committed to ongoing monitoring and refinement of our solutions, ensuring alignment with user expectations and industry best practices.

Veovo has set a benchmark for user experience excellence by prioritising inclusivity and productivity. So, while we help airports advance toward total airport management, we also ensure that as accessibility guidelines and efficiency best practices evolve, so will we.
